Country Stable Birdhouse. Handmade out of sustainably harvested, water-resistant sheep wool, this whimsical felt birdhouse will attract birds (wrens in particular), but also works well as a decoration (even a piggy bank or tooth fairy house). For best results, hang it outdoors in a protected area such as a porch with a roof. Colors may fade if placed in direct sun, but it will retain its shape for a year or more even if exposed to weather elements.
Made out of water-repellent sheep's wool, the moisture from the rain or snow wicks through the felt. Once rain stops, the birdhouse will air-dry since wool naturally breathes. Wool is also thermal, so it will be cool in the summer and warm in winter (perfect for small birds such as as wrens, nuthatches and chickadees). Some birds may pull parts of the wool to add to their nests. Fair Trade. Each birdhouse is made by artisans in Kathmandu, Nepal, who are paid a fair wage and work in a clean, safe and environmentally-responsible workplace that meets international social compliance standards. Management promotes the development of skills and abilities of the artisans, most of whom are women.
